What are Ozlandish Writings?

From July 2010 to December 2014 we ran OZLAND PICTURE STORIES as described below. Sadly though the number of writers reduced over the years and we decided to call it a day. We leave these as a record of the good times we had.

Are "You" ready to challenge your writing skills? Then participate in our OZLAND Picture Stories writing series at The Ozland Art Gallery.

Each month a new picture will be picked, from our OZLAND Artist of the Month collection, with different themes. Your goal is to write a 500-1000 word... poem... essay... or story about the picture picked. This is a chance for you to challenge your writing skills each month. Story can be written in ANY genre... sci fi... romance... ghost... fantasy... fiction... non-fiction... biography... mystery... historical... whatever your writing genre... feel free to experiment. Send your writing inworld to Sven Pertelson as a notecard to have it included on the web site. We meet at the The Ozland Art Gallery each Wednesday at Noon and 6pm SLT to read the latest submissions on voice. More Information

OZLAND, A Magical Place (ONE) by Llola Lane

Did you know that OZLAND is a magical place??? Well it is... and every night at the OZLAND Art Gallery a wonderful magical thing happens. As the clock strikes midnight, the Art Gallery comes alive!!!

"I'm STUCK!" said Time-Clock. "Been in her inventory to long I guess," says But-er-fli. "My wing is stuck too. Grrrrrrr" "Quit your complaining... I'll come help," says C-Lion and he slips off the drawing. Carefully he nudges at But-er-fli with his nose. She makes it free without a tearing her delicate wing. Next he nudges Time-Clock down, and with him falls Mooo-on. "Wake up sleepy head... It's time to explore this new place we are in," says But-er-fli to Mooo-on.

Mooo-on slowly opens one eye. He is surprised at what he sees. As he gazes out at this new place, he sees... color! It has been so long since he's seen color. "Oh, WHY can't I have color? Everyone always makes a moon white," he thinks to himself. "I'm awake," he mutters to But-er-fli and the others.

"Anyone else want to join us?" asks Time-Clock to the drawing. "Wait for me," says Fi-ish as he flops down on the ground. No one else in the drawing answers so Time-Clock, Fi-ish, But-er-fli, Mooo-on and C-Lion all gather in a circle to decide on where to explore first. "We DO have to keep track of the time," says Time-Clock and off he goes leading the way down the yellow brick road with the others following.

The road twists and turns and it isn't long before they come to a fork in the road. They decide to follow the RIGHT fork and they oo and ahh at all the wondrous things they see. Everything is so large in this new place... and colorful. Houses... Stores... They even see a giant rainbow.

Sooo much color everywhere they are hypnotized and don't watch where they are going. C-Lion falls down a large hole in the ground. "Heeeeeeeeeeelp!!!" he yells. The others grab for him and are toppled down the hole too. "KIRSPLASSSSSSSSSSH!" They all land in the OZLAND Ocean. Luckily C-Lion and Fi-ish know how to swim and they drag everyone to the dry shore. Time-Clock tries his alarm... It rings clear as a bell. But-er-fli spreads her wings out to dry in the sand. Moo-on just spits water out of his mouth.

They all sit...huddled in a circle... too tired to even move... and fall asleep.

A bird chirps in Time-Clock's ear. "Whooo... Wha..?? What time is it?" He sits up and shoos the bird away. He sees the sun just waking up in the distance. "WAKE UP EVERYONE!!! The sun is coming up. We need to get back quickly!" "OH my" says Fi-ish "How will we EVER get back to the drawing?" "I think I can take you one by one back up to the hole." says But-er-fli. As fast as she can she carries each of her friends up to the hole. "Quickly everyone... Down the yellow brick road... hurry!!!" says Moo-on.

They all stop at the fork in the road. "Which way do we go???" asks C-Lion. "Hum.. Let’s see... We made a right in the fork going this way... so left it is back to the drawing," says Time-Clock. They scurry down the road as fast as they can. Fi-ish is first to leap into the drawing... followed by C-Lion and then But-er-fli.

As Time-Clock jumps back to his place in the drawing, Mooo-on hits his hands, mad at time for making the night so go fast. One of clock's hands stops between the 7 and the 8, and the other hand stops between the 12 and the 1, JUST as the sun comes up and a new day begins all over again.
