What are Ozlandish Writings?

From July 2010 to December 2014 we ran OZLAND PICTURE STORIES as described below. Sadly though the number of writers reduced over the years and we decided to call it a day. We leave these as a record of the good times we had.

Are "You" ready to challenge your writing skills? Then participate in our OZLAND Picture Stories writing series at The Ozland Art Gallery.

Each month a new picture will be picked, from our OZLAND Artist of the Month collection, with different themes. Your goal is to write a 500-1000 word... poem... essay... or story about the picture picked. This is a chance for you to challenge your writing skills each month. Story can be written in ANY genre... sci fi... romance... ghost... fantasy... fiction... non-fiction... biography... mystery... historical... whatever your writing genre... feel free to experiment. Send your writing inworld to Sven Pertelson as a notecard to have it included on the web site. We meet at the The Ozland Art Gallery each Wednesday at Noon and 6pm SLT to read the latest submissions on voice. More Information

The Bad Girl's Dream

"A Child's Dream" by Llola Lane PART 3

"A Child's Dream" by Llola Lane PART 3

At the end of summer Robert was watching the news on TV, comfortable in his chair. Anne and Sarah were cooking in the kitchen. Robert sat up. He smelled smoke. What were the girls cooking? He chuckled to himself. It wasn't the first time Anne had burned something. He was about to stand up when Sarah ran into the room screaming at the top of her lungs..."The forest is on fire!"

Once again it was a holiday for the children, and the family were gathered around the fireplace. The only light in the room came from the fire, and the big Holiday tree in front of the large window. The children were on the floor with books, though none were reading. Mother, Father, Grandfather and Great Granda sat in silence, contemplating the tree, and the Tree of Life that it represented.

The blade was a number 6, made from surgical stainless steel, sterilised with Gamma radiation and set in a Swann-Morton handle. She thought it would be shinier, not so dull and matte. It didn't catch the light and sparkle or glisten. It felt surprisingly light in her hand and seemed more like a child's toy than a bonafide medical instrument. But, details aside, it was what she had available as the means to her awakening. The keepers-in-white did not know she had kept it safe, hidden inside a box of maxi-pads where they neglected to search.

Dream - Part 2 - by Sven Pertelson

I had been lured into a sham garden and no had no way of returning home....

Time to be logical. As far as I could tell this was not a dream. What resources had I got? Not a long list. Dressing gown, dressing gown belt, some blue fluff in left dressing gown pocket, in the right pocket an envelope, probably a bill, I had picked up from the door mat as I came downstairs. If only I had paid more attention to the Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy I would have had my towel with me.

The ride home was anything but quiet. Talk of the tree house filled the car. Sarah was excited. Anne was excited. HE was excited. This was a great family project. With all of them working on it, NOTHING could go wrong.

It was summer holiday time for the children, and the whole family was gathered in the solarium. Since they didn’t have to be up early for school, the children were allowed to stay up late. They were all laying on an opened out double sleeping bag, so they could look at the stars easily. All the adults were seated in recliners, relaxed and at ease, drinks at hand, and Great Granda Rob was puffing contentedly on his pipe.

*** A Delicate Blossom *** by Teri

She found the letter in her mailbox at work, late on a Friday afternoon. It had been hand-delivered and placed there sometime during her lunch break. The floral envelope and matching paper, made from heavy cream vellum, was infused the delicate scent of lavender and lilac. The note was hand-written with a flowing cursive script and deep blue India ink, obviously using a fountain pen, probably a Waterman. Of course it was unsigned, but then, after being the most intimate of friends for over half of their lives, they could recognise each other’s hand writing with only a glance. The envelope, sealed with red wax, bore only her first initial, “K.”

"Tree of Life - Binh" by Lillian Morpork

Robert Clarke tamped the tobacco down in his pipe as his eyes roved over the children. Johnny was staring disconsolately out the window at the rain. It was coming down in sheets, as it had been doing for the past three days. The other children were on the floor desultorily colouring, putting puzzles together or reading. Susie had been staring at the same page for five minutes.

"Daddy??? Build me a tree house... Pleeeeeeeeease."

Little Sarah pleaded with her father. She had been bugging him for months. It was spring now and he couldn't keep saying wait until winter is over. Robert was out of excuses. Slowly he nodded to his little girl. A big smile was on her face.

“Nah it not as bad as it look really.” I said grabbing the stuff out of his hands. I begin to take the cloth and begin to clean my wound as Ken sat there and watch.

Dream – Part 1– by Sven Pertelson

I am sure you all have had dreams where the house you live in or some other familiar place has undergone some subtle change. A new door or window where there was never one before, even a staircase to a floor you had not noticed before. Sometimes the same dream comes again and again. so much so that in the morning you have to go and check that it was a dream.

Tree of Life - by Lillian Morpork

There is a tree, a very special tree that permeates the Universe. No wandering astronaut would see it, but it is there. It appears as a giant tree on planets, its branches spreading over acres of land, and from it life comes. No intelligent being ever sees it, but where it is, life is lush. This tree, in its many guises, produces, nourishes and protects life.

The tree of life ever standing, ever growing
bends its branches with every showing.
