What are Ozlandish Writings?

From July 2010 to December 2014 we ran OZLAND PICTURE STORIES as described below. Sadly though the number of writers reduced over the years and we decided to call it a day. We leave these as a record of the good times we had.

Are "You" ready to challenge your writing skills? Then participate in our OZLAND Picture Stories writing series at The Ozland Art Gallery.

Each month a new picture will be picked, from our OZLAND Artist of the Month collection, with different themes. Your goal is to write a 500-1000 word... poem... essay... or story about the picture picked. This is a chance for you to challenge your writing skills each month. Story can be written in ANY genre... sci fi... romance... ghost... fantasy... fiction... non-fiction... biography... mystery... historical... whatever your writing genre... feel free to experiment. Send your writing inworld to Sven Pertelson as a notecard to have it included on the web site. We meet at the The Ozland Art Gallery each Wednesday at Noon and 6pm SLT to read the latest submissions on voice. More Information

The Mandolin - part 1 – Lillian Morpork

Barniel stood looking over the battlefield, mourning the dead, and also mourning the ruined crops. Since King Ulric died, his brother Earl Estonum had been trying to usurp the throne. The rightful heir Duke Urnath had gathered loyal forces to stop him. The battles had gone on all through the growing season. Shaking his head, Barniel turned his attention to the dead horse nearby, preparing to skin and butcher it. The meat would feed the family for some time, and his mother could use the skin for clothing.

"The Kiss" part 2 by Teri Meridian (for part 1 see July 2012)

"The Kiss" part 2 by Teri Meridian (for part 1 see July 2012)

Gale stood there, frozen, unable to raise her hand and knock. The sound of laughter from behind the door and the knowledge that her lover was not alone was a situation that she had not prepared herself to face. The desk clerk's words echoed in her mind, "Going up to join them?" as the realisation struck her like hammer; whether she went in or just slipped down the back stairs and into the street, it would be whispered and assumed that she had participated in a lesbian orgy. Her future, her reputation, and her self-respect, was irrevocably shattered. Heartbroken, confused, and feeling very alone, she sank to the floor and began to sob.

The Big Puzzle – part 2 – Lillian Morpork

Richard and Mary sat looking at the big screen of the electron microscope. No matter how they tried, they could not make a coherent object from the several clumps of brown and blue pieces. The brown cone shape was in the middle of the screen, and they were studying it closely.

“Do you think it was a spell that was place on her?” Ken ask looking a bit worry.

“Yeah I believe so I think.  If I correct I think I know someone who can speak the language.” I said with a gentle smile.

The Ozland Zombie Apocalypse Plan by Teri Meridian

The Ozland Zombie Apocalypse Plan by Teri Meridian

1. Introduction
Ozland, one of the premier residential communities in Second Life, has been sadly negligent in its planning for major events. As of this date, there are no prepared plans for Zombie Apocalypses, Impacts from SimKiller Asteroids, or Invasions by Hostile Space Aliens (Note: X Minus 1 episodes do not count as Alien Invasion Instructions or Plans). This document is the first in a serious of community plans and is intended to provide residents with useful, timely, and important information on how to deal with impending doom, fashion disasters, and other significant events. Please study it carefully and be prepared to contribute to the defense of Ozland. Queen Llola needs YOU!

Richard sighed and straightened in frustration. Looking up, he asked “does anyone have any idea just what this is supposed to be? Prof. Timmons gave it to me to assemble, and I can’t make head or tail of it.”

"Generations" Part 1 by Llola Lane

"Generations" Part 1 by Llola Lane

Nimble fingers worked the stitches. Her fingers ached but she had promised to have the rug completed by the wedding date. The artist had been stern about the quality. Like she made junk? Her workmanship was the best in all of Switzerland. THAT is why he had come to her in the first place. Did he think she was NOT going to do her best?

Who is she? - Part 3 - by Lillian Morpork

Kathy Bates stood in the doorway, watching as the nurses finished attending Jane Doe. Who would have thought two words would cause such a strong reaction? Jen had no idea, when she walked into the lounge last week at the start of her shift, and said it was a hot afternoon. To everyone’s shock, Jane Doe had sat up straight in her chair, grabbed the front of Annie’s tunic, and started talking.

Vasili offered his condolences to Takis on the loss of his girlfriend. Takis shrugged, "Really, ex-girlfriend, would be a better description. I only went to her apartment to drop off her key. We broke up over the phone while I was away. She did not take my good news at all well." Takis explained that during his visit to New York, for a master-class held by a famous chef, he had been offered a job ,at that same chef's prestigious restaurant, in England. The offer had been based on the strength of some of the recipe ideas Takis had produced during the master-class.
