What are Ozlandish Writings?

From July 2010 to December 2014 we ran OZLAND PICTURE STORIES as described below. Sadly though the number of writers reduced over the years and we decided to call it a day. We leave these as a record of the good times we had.

Are "You" ready to challenge your writing skills? Then participate in our OZLAND Picture Stories writing series at The Ozland Art Gallery.

Each month a new picture will be picked, from our OZLAND Artist of the Month collection, with different themes. Your goal is to write a 500-1000 word... poem... essay... or story about the picture picked. This is a chance for you to challenge your writing skills each month. Story can be written in ANY genre... sci fi... romance... ghost... fantasy... fiction... non-fiction... biography... mystery... historical... whatever your writing genre... feel free to experiment. Send your writing inworld to Sven Pertelson as a notecard to have it included on the web site. We meet at the The Ozland Art Gallery each Wednesday at Noon and 6pm SLT to read the latest submissions on voice. More Information

My Name Is… part 2 – Lillian Morpork

Inigo walked out of the library with the beautiful young woman, wondering just what was going to happen. Would she be able to help him break the spell that had turned into a cat? He was hopeful, and as usual, the strains of Gustav Holtz’s “The Planets” sounded in his head.

At the moment, it was the Venus suite he was hearing, Venus, the bringer of peace. His soul was at peace, and he was calm. Looking up at her, he said “My beauteous one, you know my name. Would you do me the honour of knowing yours?”

She looked at him and smiled. “But of course, my dear Puss. My name is Simone Ardor Lur, and I am a fire elemental. This is just my human form, my other form is earth fire, and in that form I live in a volcano. I am usually in this form, because then I can interact safely with people. We are going to my human home on the outskirts of town.”

She drew him toward a Royal Blue Phaeton trimmed in yellow. There was a crest on the door, a yellow rose crossed by a magic wand and topped by a gold coronet. There was a driver seated at the front, clad in a Royal Blue uniform with a similar crest embroidered on the left breast in yellow. Four horses were harnessed, all a yellowish cream colour, and caparisoned with Royal Blue leather harness. There were yellow metal roses on each side of the heads and yellow feathers fluttering on top.

As they approached, the driver got down and opened the door, ready to help them in. He saluted Simone and held out a hand to assist as she climbed in, and turned to Inigo and without batting an eyelash, lifted him up and set him inside. One would have thought that Simone was always accompanied by a well-dressed cat!

The trip to Simone’s home took them through the centre of town, and Puss gazed at everything. This was a town he had never visited, and he was curious. “What is the name of this place?” he asked Simone.

“This is the town of Lands View, so named because we are on a plateau, and overlook the whole valley of Paradise. The ruler is Count Tyrone Rugen, vizier to Prince Humperdinck, heir to the throne of Florin.”

Suddenly Inigo hears the martial beat of the Mars suite from the Planets. This is his enemy, and he has at last found him. Here is the one Inigo is after, and he can be identified easily, for he has six fingers on his left hand! ‘All I have to do is get close enough to see his hands!’ he thought. ‘Perhaps my Bella Donna can arrange for me to do that. Then if Simone can free me from this spell, I can at last take my revenge!’
